It took me about a month to learn what foods to eat and when. As soon as I had them memorized the plan itself was pretty much a breeze. I can't recommend this highly enough to people! It changed my life, by God's grace! I've lost 105 pounds on this plan alone, it took 13 months and I took a break from weight loss for a healthy pregnancy but I did reach my goal weight and have been maintaining (all while staying on this plan) for a number of months now.I love that God is at the center of this book because He's the only reason I have been able to lose all of this weight and I am SO thankful!
Love this! The plan makes perfect sense and is easy to follow. I am slowly incorporating their changes. This is not a specialty diet and does not require too many out of the ordinary ingredients. Also, i am so on board with not doubling up on fuels for my body. It's either Protien and fats-S meal or proteins and carbs-E meal, not carbs and fats together.
I actually own the newer version of this book and the cookbook but this particular version of the book has recipes that aren't in the new cookbook. I an honestly say the new version is better because the recipes look like actual recipes and include measurements, etc. I'm glad I have this version for the recipes that the new cookbook doesn't include, but I'm also glad I didn't pay full price for it (I bought it used from an Amazon reseller).
I like the in depth explanations and their conversational tone of this, their first book. They write as though they are chatting with you in their living room. Some people prefer the condensed version in the latest book, Trim Healthy Table. If you're on a budget and new to the plan, go with the Trim Healthy Table book where the plan is summarized in the first section and followed by lots of great recipes. However, I went back and bought this book afterwards, and I am glad I did. I like the in depth explanations for their eating plan.

I bought Trim Healthy Mama over a year ago. My husband and I jumped in and we haven't looked back. I have lost over 40 pounds and gone down 5 skirt sizes. Big deal right there!!!My husband's A1C levels dropped so significantly in 6 months that his doctor took him off most of his diabetes medicine. Don't let the title fool you: it's great for Daddy's health too!I find the story style of the book to be intriguing. I love how the sisters each offer a perspective in the book that reflects her own food style choices. I appreciate the work they have done researching out the ideas the book offers.Trim Healthy Mama advocates a well rounded, healthy whole foods eating lifestyle while giving allowance for our busy life schedules. There are plenty of options for people who want to stick with baking their own breads, while giving options for people who want to buy them. There are ideas to help the people who grow their own food, as well as ideas to help introduce fruits and vegetables to families who haven't been too keen on them in the past. And there is a chocolate recipe. Best chocolate ever, in my life. I was so excited that I could finally have a dark, salted chocolate that let me control the sweetness. I had NEVER thought of making my own before.I like how each sister also addressed life issues she had and what she did to recover from them. They both, quite simply, bared their souls about the health issues they had that lead them to write this book. They each have areas of women's health that resonates in their hearts that they wrote about and included in the book, from vitamins to hormones to exercise. Most husbands will be big advocates of THM when they realize that marital intimacy is addressed as well. ;)This book isn't just about food. It is about being HEALTHY, as a person.
There are a lot of good things about this diet, andI plan to try it. That said, half the book has no value to me whatsoever. These two sisters try to convince me that although I am gluten intolerant, I should try to eat it because Jesus said, "I am the Bread of Life." And they even go after evidence-based evolution. Shaking my head. I am also a Christian, but of a different stripe. I don't need two conservative, young (hence, "Mama"), lay theologians teaching me how to "please my husband." I am really torn. I think the diet has significant value for me, but if I had known this particular book had them wandering all over the conservative Christian landscape, I would have stuck to the recipe books. This female pastor is somewhat horrified that I purchased this tripe (aside from the diet, which is sound).
When I first started reading this book I couldn't understand why so many people hated how much these two women wrote about everything to do with eating to lose weight. Now that I have been reading for days and am not even close to the end, I understand. I still have no idea how to put what they have written (on and on and on) together to use this book on a daily basis to lose weight. So far I have found nothing that tells me when, if or how much to use Both S meals and E meals together in one day to lose weight. Very frustrating. But I will do what I have read other people are doing and that is sticking to the recipes they have given us in the book. I'm on Atkins now and afraid to switch to any of the E meals they talk about since I'm not sure when to eat them and still do S meals.
