Unlike the Rolling Stones, Keller's cloud is not one she insists you getting off up, but caught up in!If you are a fan of her work you may be asking yourself if anything could match her masterpiece 'the face of the deep'! Well the impossible possibility has arrived printed on tree.If you haven't experienced Keller's work before then you are in for a treat unless poetically tinged theo-philosophical texts that fold and entangle disciplines, sciences, and human profundity aren't your thing. Here's an interview I did with her about the book if you want an audiological encouragement to get the book: http://homebrewedchristianity.com/2015/11/27/evil-providence-and-the-love-of-god-with-tom-oord/

I cannot even begin to articulate why I love this book so much. I consider Keller to be one of theologies greatest prose stylists, so it is fun to read simply for the language. It is a revelation to think about clouds theologically. And her bringing together of apophatic theology and its many entanglements really situates some modern theological notions after the "death of God" in helpful fashion. Loved the explorations into Nicholas of Cusa and Whitman. Will be reading the book a second time for further meditation.

Wow! One of the best theological reads I have ever read. Be prepared to have your ideas challenged and be willing not to agree with every point. This is one of the most thought provoking books I have read in years.

I think this book is Dr. Keller's finest work so far. It is simply beautiful. I believe that American Christianity is badly in need of new ways of talking and thinking about faith and Dr. Keller's work is pointing towards a way forward in our post-modern world. We need theology that looks like this. I found that reading this book was a deeply spiritual as well as intellectually engaging experience.

Theology in the 21st century is quite different from that of the past, and Keller exemplifies this current approach magnificently.

My church is thinking of reading this book, but I am very dubious. We were given a list of rave reviews, but, as I told class leaders, "my 40 plus years in the book business tells me that a bunch of glowing editorial reviews on the Amazon page, or the back cover of a book are rather meaningless. I think for the class to make a really informed choice, we should be given the first 5 or 6 pages to read." So I "looked inside" on Amazon. On page 2 I found this: "Dream, in German Traum, becomes trauma." Is Ms Keller really linking "trauma" to "dream" through "Traum"? If I'm reading my dictionary correctly, "dream" derives from "Traum", but "trauma" derives from the Greek "traumat-" alter. of :troma" to wound. Dream and trauma do not appear to be connected. If she's doing something else there, then she isn't doing it very well. I think Keller is being a bit too clever in her "finely wrought prose". Speaking of which, one reviewer calls her " one of theologies greatest prose stylists", but it doesn't look like the kind of prose style I would enjoy reading.

Oh boy when theologians start in with the quantum physics you know it's time to head for the hills. What will save most people from this book is the absurd price. You know friends what's really wrong here? The well-nigh unpardonable sin really being committed? It is to take the language of Shakespeare and Joyce and Austen, the glorious English language that in the hands of the adept can be made to sing, and scrambling it into this mishmash, this bafflegab!

Fairy Tale Comics: Classic Tales Told by Extraordinary Cartoonists

From School Library Journal

Gr 3 Up–Nineteen cartoonists re-envision the world of “once upon a time” in this collection of 17 fairy tales. Stories are chiefly from Grimm and other European sources, but a few represent Middle Eastern, Asian, and American lore. The rich potpourri of interpretations presented in various mediums, styles, and settings makes the anthology unique. Some stories remain true to conventional retellings, while other adaptations have a decidedly fanciful aspect. Readers will note marked differences in the approaches to the Grimm tales. For example, Emily Carroll dresses her “12 Dancing Princesses” in elegant renaissance gowns while the wicked stepmother in Jaime Hernandez's “Snow White” has a futuristically styled gown and headdress. Graham Annable's wordless “Goldilocks and the Three Bears” illustrates the effectiveness of images in nuanced storytelling. “The Prince and the Tortoise” echoes the classic realistic scenes of Prince Valiant, while subdued monochromatic colors and simple drawings of the Japanese “The Boy Who Drew Cats” complement the tale's Asian origins. Several artists inject playful humor: Puss in Boots motors around on a Vespa scooter while the King and Queen travel in a pickup truck bed. The “Bremen Town” setting is the Wild West with outlaws stating, “We ain't goin' near no haunted house.” While many traditional stories feature young maidens as beautiful brides, Raina Telgemeier's contemporary “Rapunzel” finds her own version of happily-ever-after when she realizes that “I've got the whole world to explore.” These adaptations are sure to enchant devotees of comics and those who like a fresh and distinctive approach to fairy tales.–Barbara M. From Booklist

*Starred Review* To follow up the winning Nursery Rhyme Comics (2011), First Second offers this similarly spectacular idea. Once again gathering a coterie of grand artistic talent from kids’ and indie comics (many returning from NRC), this collection features 17 stories longer than those in the previous project, which gives each work more room to delight. Many classics appear, from “Snow White” to “Goldilocks” to “Hansel and Gretel,” but an effort has been made to turn up a few more obscure fables, and the balance between familiarity and novelty proves just right. The artists all bring their A-game to produce standouts like Emily Carroll’s wondrously textured “12 Dancing Princesses,” Luke Pearson’s mystical and eerie “The Boy Who Drew Cats,” Joseph Lambert’s rousing and hilarious “Rabbit Will Not Help,” and David Mazzucchelli’s stark-lined and graceful “Give Me the Shudders” (his first comics work since Asterios Polyp, 2009). But every artist here knows how to turn in an elegant, flowing story, and every tale is pitch-perfect for young readers and intimate read-alouds. Overall, the book is an ideal choice for a child’s first comics experience and a new way to enjoy old favorites. Preschool-Grade 2. --Jesse Karp

There is a plethora of fairy tales in this book. None too long and written in the comic style where you get some of the meaning from the pictures. Graphic art has come into its own and there are many wonderful full length novels and even non-fiction research these days written by graphic artists. This is a wonderful introduction for children to that genre. Many of these stories are ones that I have been telling children for many years without a book and this adds the pictures. The illustrations are not all done in the same style so that adds to the interesting nature of the book as well.

I think this book is beautifully done and the fairy tales have a great humor to them to accompany the bright and youthful art. I'd recommend this as reading for kids aged 10 and up. MAYBE 8 or 9 with mom and/or dad's permission. There is nothing vulgar or expletive, but some of the content might not be necessarily suitable for younger children. I originally bought this book at a comic store and gave it to my tech savvy, not inclined towards reading, nephew (aged 10) this past Christmas. He thought it was funny and not the usual "boring" book. Only lacking a star because I wish there more stories for what you're paying - but that is my personal issue. Five stars for quality of art, storytelling, and engaging format for readers of all ages (above 10).ps. I did end up buying a copy for myself. Had to. :-)

This is a nice collection. I forgot how dark traditional fairy tales (which most of these are) can be. So quickly discovered they are not appropriate for my four year old who is starting to enjoy graphic novels like the Dogman series. These were too scary for him and he told me so. However I think they could be good for an older child and I enjoyed seeing each artists interpretation of the classic stories.

I would recommend this book for kids old enough to know the traditional stories so that the humor of the re-interpretations will come across more fully. A collection like this, where each tale is presented by a different author/artist, is bound to be a bit uneven--however, the overall quality here is quite good. With that having been said, I have to add that trying to read it on a Kindle was an abysmal experience. With the display blown up to a size that allowed me to see each cartoon panel, transitioning from panel to panel (where normally one would flip from page to page of a book) actually jumped from dialogue bubble to bubble and eliminated the graphics. In other words, the context of the dialogue was completely lost, and with no illustrations, there is no point to this being a book of cartoons.

My 4 year old daughter loves this book. Some of the stories are just a bit scary for her, but she really likes nearly all of them. We looked up an online comic (Cucumber Quest) because one of these artists draws it, and she's gone completely bananas for it. So it's not only a good book but a way to find talented artists as well. All of the stories are interesting, and it seems like it will also appeal to my son once he's old enough to read along with us.

Perfect for kids who can read, like the comic strip format, and have fond memories of fairy tales. I gave a copy to two little girls I've mentored since grade one who are going into middle school this fall. Never forget these great old stories, I urged them.

I have a 4 year old daughter and she's been obsessed with First Second's version of nursery rhymes (Nursery Rhyme Comics) for well over a year. She routinely picks it out over the more traditional mother goose illustrated book we have. So, I ordered Fairy Tale Comics for her fourth birthday. Just like the Nursery Rhyme Comics the illustrations add a nice twist on to the familiar tales (and to the less familiar tales as well). It's a fantastic and fresh new perspective on stories we've all heard too many times, and often seen too many Disney movies of.However, I will say, given that these are fairly, well, graphic, there are some stories that are currently too scary for our little 4 year old. Unfortunately we never know which one will get her, so this has become an afternoon book, rather than a bedtime book. As she gets older I anticipate this will change and the book will have a long life as her understanding grows. She loves it and requests it often.

This was a Christmas gift for my 7 year old daughter. She absolutely loves it. She finds a lot of the stories funny. Some of the stories are a bit dark (aren't all fairy tales a little dark, though?). We give this book a big thumbs up!

From the Back Cover

Regarded by many as the greatest of the Impressionists, Claude Monet (1840–1926) was encouraged early in his career to paint outdoors, accurately rendering atmospheric effects and producing superb works that brilliantly record the transient effects of light. Late in life, beset by increasing blindness, he painted large, vibrantly colored subjects that eventually came to represent the most sophisticated stage of Impressionism. Among the 16 beautiful sticker reproductions of his major works included here are Water Lilies (the Clouds); The Stroll, Camille Monet and Her Son Jean; Camille Monet in the Garden at Argenteuil; The Road Bridge at Argenteuil; Water-Lily Pond, Young Women in a Boat, and Regatta at Argenteuil. Original Dover (1999) publication.

The stickers were a little smaller than I anticipated but they are wonderful otherwise! I used these and the Van Gogh stickers to decorate my MacBook Pro case

LOVE these little masterpieces! I originally bought them because I like to send letters to people but find that the glue used on envelopes does not seal well (regardless or brand) and use these to seal the back. Upon receiving them I HAD to keep my favorites (yet, I don't know what Ill use them for yet!) Whether letter lover, art lover you'll find that these are little gems. I also think that they would make a good gift idea for young ones because all of these artists sticker packages shows the most popular works and names.

I love these stickers. I'm old fashioned and love to send real mail - the kind you actually go to the post office and put a stamp on and have to think about. I love putting these on the back of letters as just a little extra touch. Not sure if my recipients enjoy getting them as much as I like sending, but it's a nice to way share my love of Monet and support the lost art of letter writing all at the same time!

These were okay, my son liked them. However, they were too small to see the points of color, brush strokes and dabs of color that makes Monet the great impressionist painter he was. But it did get my son familiar with Monet's work.

Beautiful. Free postage and cost was $1.98. Nicer than any Disney type stickers.

I do not know how my friends and the electric company feel about receiving envelopes with stickers like these as sealers on the back ... but I hope they brighten their days a little. When I use them, they are meant to help keep the envelope flap sealed .... and to be cheery when the recipient starts to open the envelope. Who knows ..... but I enjoy using them from time to time.

Beautiful stickers! I bought these for a friend who loves Monet. The colors are perfect and vibrant and the stickers are the perfect little size. You could use these to decorate notecards, or make some sort of art project with them. I would buy these again, for myself this time!

Very nice book for little stickers.
