Too much repetition. To the author: If I have to read the same jokes ad infinitum, they stop being funny. I am a reader who would have given previous books in the series a higher rating. But by the time I finished book 6, I was annoyed more than anything else.I do not want to read again and again and again, virtually every few pages, in almost every book, not just this one, the protagonist’s dialogue with his conversing dog which usually resolves around the curative properties of the Dog’s slobber, the dog’s constant demand of food and which enemy should the dog bite.I do not want to read the same joke, found in most chapters, on how the detective’s mage partner likes destroying stuff, to which the mage partner would defend himself by saying that the protagonist brings down his share of building.I do not want to read in every book how the dog scares Andrei and how the protagonist enjoys this fear and how his mage partner cautions against this enjoyment. These are only few of the repetitive events that gets boringly recycled. It gets tiring to read the same thing again and again. It is for this reason I will give this book 2 stars.

Aside from the more obvious plot line of saving New York (ahem, mostly) from a deadly threat, to me, this book is primarily about dealing with the consequences of your actions. In previous books, Monty crossed a line with an ally and powerful magic-user, and Simon was unable to prevent the death of a friend's daughter. Now they have to deal with the repercussions of their actions. This book starts off on a serious note - and a beautiful forward from the author - but quickly takes you into a fast-paced adventure. Mr. Sanchez continues to build a colorful, engaging world with characters that are as real as they are fantastic. The relationships between Simon and Peaches (aka Zen Meat Guru) and between Simon and Monty (think: brothers with a huge helping of snark) have me coming back to this series over and over again.

When starting a Montague and Strong book, you must always first brace yourself for the ride and second you must come to grips with the fact that you know absolutely nothing, and Orlando Sanchez is Yoda. BUT this Yoda, is in line with Darth Vader and he does not want you to survive till the end of his book. Now I’m not saying he is actively trying to kill us, but I just finished Dragons and Demigods and I feel like I had a run in with the Morrigan. (Dex was there, he is the reason I’m alive.)I’m trying to find the words to write this review, but nothing is sticking. I’m still caught up in Simon and Monty’s world and probably will be for the next couple of days. What I think I love the most about these books is how Sanchez doesn’t need to build us up to get to the point of the book. The buildup for Dragons and Demigods happened in Full Moon Howl and then reiterated in Homecoming. But really, all the Montague and Strong books lead into each other, and its done so well that you never really have to go back and reread a book to remember what happened because he writes these so well that everything is fresh in your mind, despite the wait between books. THAT is called a gift. Orlando Sanchez is a gift. His writing is a GIFT.With Dragons and Demigods, we get the much-anticipated Reckoning and honestly, I was worn out by the time I got to the words CHAPTER THREE, I had to close the kindle app for all of five minutes because it was a lot. The way the Sanchez can put you in whatever part of the book you are reading is uncanny. I felt like I was a witness to that Reckoning, I felt like I was standing beside Simon and LD and boy was I scared for Monty. HELLA SCARED. Thank you Dex, just thank you for existing, because WOW! There is never a dull moment, no time wasting or sleep happening. This book (and the ones before it) go from thirty (none of his books start at zero,) to a hundred real quick and when they hit a hundred it does not go back down it stays there and you are left trying to keep up and survive it all at the same time.Family is a big thing within Sanchez’s books. It’s the most important part of these books because it really is a factor in everything that these guys do, in every choice they make. Family protects, no matter what and its conveyed in a way that you always know that its about family and nothing else. I would give an example what I hate spoilers. You’ll see what I mean when you read the book.My only complaint with the book would be the big bad villain, for me he was a bit cliché and a lot of out of nowhere. You know, those characters that don’t really have a place, but you need them to tie up all the loose ends. Yeah, that was the only part of this book that I had to scratch my head at because I seriously did not understand where he came from (again no spoilers.)But to end this review because I could keep going, I totally need to stop LOL I enjoyed Dragons and Demigods. It’s definitely one I’ll read again.

Simon & Monty have finished their business at Sanctuary, the home of the Mage Council. Upon returning to their New York City office, where both were looking forward to a well earned rest, a whispered telephone call puts them on high alert. "I found them. I found the Dragons"!!!But first, there will be a Reckoning... Monty has angered TK, one of the Terrible Ten, and she demands her just dues. But Monty is weakened, in the midst of a Mage power shift, will he survive the Danger Room? Either way, George must be stopped, before he destroys the City in his quest for Revenge. No parent should ever have to bury a child. We feel his pain, his loss, his anguish after death of his only daughter, killed by a Dragon. But can justice turn a blind eye? Can Simon help his old friend George? Even with his Hell-hound Peaches by his side, will it be enough? A heart wrenching tale of a father's search for revenge.

Monty and Simon are at it again! Simons old friend/military buddy, Rott, has gone on a rampage to get revenge for the death of his daughter. A dragon caused her death so "Rott" wants them all dead! It's lots of action, tension, and explosions for all of us readers, who love that kind of stuff, and several twists you don't see coming, as well.Peaches says "meat is life" so Simon really does have to learn how to "make" meat, and has he finally got a car that can hold up to all the magic and fireworks? Well, I guess you will have to read this installment of Monty and Simon to find out! Another book to love from Orlando Sanchez!
